HISTORY & MISSION

June 2017 - BothTonka United and Fusion SC announced an exciting and innovative partnership; the two well-respected clubs would come together to establish an Elite program with a collective mission to create a distinct culture of excellence that will allow players to reach their fullest potential both on and off the field. Through providing best-in-class resources such as a qualified staff, premier facilities, and a holistic development program that sought to develop the total player, we pledged to define and create a new platform that would allow our players to achieve their highest soccer aspirations, which includes high school, collegiate, and professional levels. In addition to a long-term player development curriculum, players would have access to programs including a Collegiate Soccer Advisory Program and Athletic Performance Training Program.

In the first year, the 2017/2018 season, the two clubs joined forces to create a top boys and girls team at the 2004 and 2005 birth years under a co-brand of Tonka-Fusion Elite (TFE), with plans to expand to additional age groups over time beginning at U13. Tonka United and Fusion SC continued to operate all MYSA classic level programming independently. In other words, all other teams would operate as usual without any disruption.

Jonathan Schaefer, Director of Coaching & Player Development of Tonka United, described this partnership as "two monumental west metro clubs with similar resources and visions collaborating to provide a player-focused development model for the elite player in their communities."

"The development of this program represents the deep trust and partnership that our two proud clubs have developed over the past year," said Lawrence Tsoi, Technical Director of Fusion SC. "This partnership will further our collaboration in ways that will enhance the development of all of our players. Together, we will not only elevate elite soccer programming for our two clubs, but we will work together to raise the bar in Minnesota."

The 2017/2018 season included two Boys Minnesota State Cup Champions - both qualifying for US Youth Soccer (USYS) Regional Championships.

The 2018/2019 season included three Boys Minnesota State Cup Finalists and three Girls Minnesota State Cup Champions - all qualifying for USYS Regional Championships, where one team qualifying for USYS National Championships. where they placed 5th. There were also four Girls MN National Premier League (NPL) Champions - all qualifying for NPL Finals, where one team finishing as NPL Finals Runner-Up.

The 2019/2020 season was cut short due to COVID-19, leaving players, families and staff exciting to get back to soccer this upcoming season.

Now in the 2020/2021 season, TFE has seven girls teams (2008 - 2003 birth years) and six boys teams (2008 - 2004 birth years).
